Our Lady of the River Parish has a long and proud history in the Riverland region.
The parish was first founded in 1938 and has been serving the local community ever since. The parish was originally established as a mission parish to serve the growing Catholic population in the area. Throughout the years, the parish has seen many changes, including the amalgamation of its mass centres across the Riverland towns.
The parish is very active in the local community, hosting a number of events and activities for members of the parish.
Today, Our Lady of the River Parish is a vibrant and active community of faith, offering a range of services to the community and continuing to serve the Riverland region.
St Joseph's School Barmera has a strong connection with the local Our Lady of the River parish and its priests, Father Hau and Father Emil. The school and parish work together extensively, with Father Hau and Father Emil often visiting the school to celebrate Mass at St Francis Xavier church and other special occasions. The school and parish are also closely tied through the Catholic Education Office and the Diocese of Port Pirie.
